Geese problems start as geese entering and exiting the pond trample the vegetation along the shoreline, geese loafing along the shore cause soil compaction which harms existing vegetation and inhibits new growth, grazing geese denude the lawns and shoreline vegetation, bare spots lead to erosion of the soil and sedimentation of ponds and streams, stormwater runoff carries with it the nutrient-rich droppings and feather litter into the water, goose droppings in heavy concentrations overfertilize the lawns and water, excessive algae growth in the ponds depletes the oxygen supply killing the natural vegetation and other aquatic life, geese drive away or kill other natural inhabitants of the ponds such as smaller waterfowl nuisance, geese cross the street and interfere with traffic, children pick up toys that have been in contact with goose droppings, people can't find a place to sit, walk or play because of the abundance of goose droppings, shoes track droppings into offices, vehicles and homes. During the nesting season geese can become aggressive toward people who inadvertently approach the nest sites this is of particular concern when small children are involved.
